How much subsidy is provided by the Government for installation of drip irrigation system? Top
The Government subsidizes 60 percent of total system cost for installation of drip irrigation system on upto 15 acres while the remaining expenditure is contributed by the beneficiary farmers (40 percent). In addition, government provides Rs. 10,000 per acre of scheme area for construction of water storage pond, if needed, on the basis of site specific technical requirements.

What is Precision Land Leveling and LASER technology? Top
Precision land leveling (PLL) is a mechanical process of grading and smoothing the land to a precise and uniform plane surface at grade or no grade (zero slope) with variation of less than 2cm. The LASER technology has proved to be a highly efficient tool for achieving a high degree of precision for carrying out PLL operations in much lesser time.  
   
What are the benefits of LASER land leveling? Top
LASER land leveling is an ideal intervention for improving water application efficiency and enhancing crop yields. An impact assessment study carried out by Planning and Evaluation Cell of Agriculture Department during 2008 reveals its following impacts.
  • Saving in irrigation time from 25.1 to 32.1 percent
  • Increase in irrigated area by 34.5 to 42.0 percent
  • Improvement in crop yields from 10.7 to 12.9 percent
  • Reduction in farm cultureable waste land by 2.10 percent
  • Facilitation in better crop stand, uniform moisture availability and enhanced fertilizer use efficiency
 
   
Is there any Government schemes for provision of LASER land levelers to the farmers? Top
Yes, the LASER units are being provided on subsidy to the farmers/service providers under the “Punjab Irrigated-Agriculture Productivity Improvement Project”.  
   
How much subsidy is provided by the Government for LASER unit? Top

The total cost of LASER unit is Rs. 550,000-650,000.  
   
What is the eligibility criteria to apply for LASER units? Top
An applicant is eligible for the grant of financial assistance provided that the person,
  • possesses a tractor capable of operating LASER unit;
  • is owner/tenant/lease and self cultivator of land not more than 12.5 acres and is preferably agricultural machinery service provider or an agricultural graduate possessing requisite land ownership;
  • agrees to rent out the equipment for LASER land leveling in the area;
  • undertakes to carry out/provide rental services for LASER land leveling of 300 acres per unit annually during project period; and
  • is liable to pay full amount of financial assistance received for the purpose as arrears of land revenue in case of violation of any of the conditions of the scheme.
 
   
What is the procedure for applying to avail subsidy of LASER unit and where to get the application farms? Top
Agriculture Department invites applications through advertisement in the press from the farmers interested to work as service providers for LASER land leveling rental services. The interested farmers obtain the application form from provincial, regional, district, and tehsil level OFWM offices and submit the filled-in forms along with necessary documents to the concerned District Officer (OFWM) for further processing. The application form can also be downloaded from OFWM website (www.ofwm.gop.pk)  
   
Who supplies the LASER Unit? Top
The agriculture Department has pre-qualified the supply and service companies for provision of LASER land levers to the farmers/service providers.  
   
Where to get the additional information regarding LASER land leveling? Top
The additional information can be obtained from provincial, regional, district, and tehsil level OFWM offices as well as from OFWM website (www.ofwm.gop.pk).

Approval of the concerned office is sufficient for carrying out the agricultural work. For non-agricultural work, sanction from higher office is required.

How can the Biogas run a tubewell? Top
Due to a diesel engine installed at the site, consuming 20% of HSD & 80% of the biogas.  
   
How will the biogas plant function? Top
After mixing the cattle dung, humus etc. with water homogeneously and feeding to gas well. The gas will operate the diesel engine. The petrol engine can however, itself be operated by the biogas, without the petrol.  
   
When is the cattle dung fed to gas plant? Top
On daily basis, after proportionately mixing with water.

On daily basis or at least 2-3 times a week, duly proportionately mixing equal quantities of water and cattle dung / humus.  
   
What saving may be achieved with the biogas tubewells? Top
Due to consuming only 20% of the HSD and 80% of gas, an average 20 HP diesel engine may save about Rs.220/- per hour of operation of the tubewell.

What are fees/charges of soil and water analysis? Top
The services are available on nominal charges fixed by Govt. of the Punjab i.e. Soil sample Rs. 6/-per sample and complete water analysis Rs. 5/- per sample. On commercial basis our services are also available for fertilizer analysis regarding quality control.  
   
How much soil is needed for a soil test? Top
Generally the recommends quantity of soil about 500g is sufficient. This amount should be enough to represent the area being tested.
